This entanglement marked a turning point in the health of the Hobart Rivulet. A heavy storm had lead to a significant pollution event in the waterway, due to wind blown rubbish flooding down from McRobies Tip directly into the Hobart Rivulet.
Images and video of both the platypus entanglement and polluted waterway lead to a first time acknowledgement of responsibility and commitment to action regarding McRobies Tip from the City of Hobart.
